The cat is an extremely clean animal that can spend many hours of its day grooming itself. It is also an exceptional domestic animal that maintains its hunting instinct, in addition, it is explorer and independent. For all these reasons we sometimes believe it needs less care than a dog, but this is a serious mistake since there are many diseases that kittens can contract.
An adequate diet, as well as good hygienic habits, will help our pet to remain in an optimal state of health. Among these healthy habits, we must highlight the hygiene of the ears since these can act as a gateway for multiple pathogens and keeping them clean is very important.
But how should we do it? Don’t worry, in this Animal Expert article we show you how to clean kittens ears step by step.

How to Clean Kittens Ears – Step by Step
The first and most important thing is to avoid stress in our kittens since otherwise, it will associate this habit in a negative way. This way kittens will make it more challenging and we will find the hygiene of the ears an increasingly difficult process.
How do we reassure our cat? We will start with caresses and a friendly tone of voice, we must get our feline to interpret our gestures as a game so that he relaxes completely. Eventually, our kitten must be in an optimal position to start cleaning of its ears.
If it is a kitten we can place it on our legs, on the other hand, in the case of adult cats it is better to place it on a bench or table that is at our height.
If all of the above doesn’t work, you can always choose to add any of the various natural cat tranquilizers to this strategy.
The second step is to check the ears of our cat because it is always very important that as owners we are attentive to any sign or symptom that may indicate the presence of any disease.
The presence of parasites, excessive wax, fetid odor, scabs or wounds may be indicating some pathology such as otitis or ear infection. Therefore, if you see these signs, it is recommended that you do not delay in going to the vet.
On the contrary, the absence of these signs together with a pale pink ear canal will indicate a good state of health.
To start cleaning the ears we will start on the outside, for this, we will only need a moistened towel and the cleaning product that we generally use for bath, of course, it must be a specific soap for cats.
With the towel and soap, we clean the outer and hairy part of the ear, subsequently removing any residual detergent that may have remained.
Cleaning the inside of the ear must be carried out with extreme caution so as not to compromise the structures found in the ear pavilion, for this, we only require a preferably sterile cotton gauze.
We will roll this gauze on our finger and insert it very gently into the ear canal to facilitate the wax detachment and the ear to be cleared.
We don’t need anything else, but we should know that we can have another alternative, the specific ear cleaners for cats, which have a comfortable applicator and dissolve the wax.
To keep your cat’s ears in perfect condition, you should know that this procedure must be performed one time every two weeks. In addition, to prevent any complication, when you go to bathe your cat, you must plug its ears with two cotton balls. In this way, you avoid the entry of water, which could cause damage to the ear canal.
If you observe any anomaly it will be essential to go to the vet to identify if it is a disease or there is a problem that should be reviewed. Some indicators of health problems may be the presence of dark wax, a yeast-like odor, or the appearance of parasites.
